AARP Florida and a coalition of senior organizations urge the repeal of a state law that sets up two Florida Senior Care (FSC) pilot programs in northwest and central Florida.
If repeal is not possible, AARP Florida will implore lawmakers not to approve implementation of the pilot programs during the 2007 legislative session.
Instead, Florida should reform its entire long-term care system.
Some initial steps include:
Increase the number of Aging Resource Centers (ARCs), operated by community nonprofit groups to provide unbiased, accurate guidance on long-term care.
Expand the state’s voluntary Medicaid nursing-home diversion program, which uses Medicaid dollars to provide home and community-based care.
Increase funding for Community Care for the Elderly and Alzheimer’s programs so that older Floridians can receive care at home, rather than in a nursing home.
